Is Panda Online Scan any better than Housecall??
Hi,
Right now I have the active x controls for Panda scan and Housecall. Unfortunately, EZTrust is giving me a false positive for three files in my Windows\System files that relate to Panda.
I'm starting to find this annoying and wondered if Panda is better than Housecall. If not, I think I'll delete the Active X and those three files.
Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Sincerely, Nancee

Are you running version 6 in Reviewer mode? Or is this occuring with version 5.4 or the new version 6.1?
Note that in Reviewer mode, you can get false positives and yes, it will occur with some of the Panda files leftover from an uninstall. I would also expect it in association with Housecall.

Hi Allyn,
I'm running Version 5.4. EZTrust support said Panda's files aren't encrypted and that's why I'm getting a false/positive.
Here's the files reported:
Number of infections: 3
Number of infected files not cleaned/deleted/renamed: 3
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ActiveScan\pav.sig (Win95.Bumble.1736/1738 dropper)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ActiveScan\imscan.dll (Win32.Maya.4108/4113 dropper)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\pav.sig (Win95.Bumble.1736/1738 dropper)
I don't recall ever getting a f/p re Housecall.
Is Panda any better that Housecall?
Also, I have no uninstall for Panda - it's from an online scan and I have the Active X components in the View Objects area of IE and the above 3 files in my windows\system area.

You're correct. It would be from Panda's online scan. Those are the same false positives I've picked up before after trying Panda Platinum 7, but I never detected them with 5.4.
I can't say for sure about Panda's online scan being necessarily better than Housecall as I've not tried it.

Hi Allyn,
I have it set to scan all files and heuristic scanning is enabled. (maybe that's why it detected them).
I'll wait. Hopefully someone will come along that has used both online scanners.
Thanks again.

I had the feeling that Panda does a very good job from my last visit there two days before....
It scans files that other AVs maybe don't , like cabs and inside zips
(I'm not sure about Housecall )
Reality is what refuses to go away when I stop believing in it.

Thank you Edson. I was very satisfied with it also (it scanned all of my temp. internet files which EZTrust doesn't - I think it just doesn't scan the Index dat part, not sure). As long as I know those 3 files are false/positives I guess it's okay. (My daughter had turned on the pc recently and told me the computer found a virus - that was pretty upsetting until I saw the files )
Thanks again.
Sincerely, Nancee
