    Msimn.exe application error

When (sometimes) I shut down Outlook Express I get a notice of a "Msimn.exe Application Error" which reads "The instruction at Ox77f52109 referenced memory at Ox007f4808. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the programme".
What does this mean and should I do something about it? Everything seems to be working fine (Win XP Pro) and the problem does not occur every time I close OE....help please.

    Try this:

    Open Outlook Express
    Go to Tools | Options
    On the General tab
Uncheck Automatically log on to Windows messenger
    Click Apply then OK
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most

Thank you. I have now done that and will report back if it happens again....what exactly does this do? Does this memory problem matter? Would like to understand what is happening/has happened.

Unfortunately the problem persists. I have closed OExpresss about three times since I last posted and the Msinn application error box has recurred on the third closing......any more ideas?

Hi make sure OE is set as your default mail handler. If this is already the case then you might like to reinstall OE over the top of itself. To re-install Outlook Express - Click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%\Inf. Locate the MSOE50.INF file. Right click it and select Install. You could also look at MS :-

Thank you for the suggestions. OE is set as default mail handler. I am getting the error messge about 50% of the times I shut OE down - despite this it still seems to be working OK. I am getting cold feet about re-installing or messing with the registry - if I re-install will I loose my messages etc? Do I really need to do this anyway - can I "live" with the error? Guidance appreciated.

Went to th M$ site and followed the instructions - did sfc /scannow - inserted the XP disc, aborted the attempt to re-install XP and then waited for the little green line to traverse the screen - no message once complete - and since then it has behaved itself(so far)...will report back if problem recurs - again thanks everyone for their help.

Update. It has been behaving itself since I last posted. I have looked at other Forums and see others have reported the same problem but without resolution. I would like to know what has happened...it clearly doesn't matter much because everything is still running fine...but what bit of memory was not being accessed by what? Looking for enlightenment
