    DirectCD and Windows

At home I have ezcd5 platinium. I use DirectCD pretty often to burn cd-rw. But at my work I cannot read these cds as I don't have directcd driver. I use win2k. But I remember that WinME asked and installed directcd driver. Any ideas how to read cd created via directcd under win2k? What must be installed?

The way I avoid this problem is just use Easy CD Creator to burn onto the CD-RW disc. Burn it just like you do a CD-R, and you'll be able to read it in any CD-ROM drive. When you try to burn it, it will pop up a windows asking if you're sure you want to do it, just say yes. It probably takes a little longer than using DirectCD, but it will definitely work. To erase the disc, just go into Easy CD Creator and choose from the menu CD->Erase Disc.

Otherwise, I guess you'd have to install DirectCD on each system, and I don't know if that would work on a system without a burner in it.

I find DirectCD very easy and fast way to burn CD-RW data (for small and regular backup purposes) but for cdrs I use Easy CD Creator. It's a long but different story (ezcd and win2k problems).

At work I can read only root folder files. Any subfolder data is not visible. I believe installing DirectCD component on work system
    will solve the problem.

Sounds like what you're looking for is a UDF reader. Don't know about Windows 2000, but this reader works for 98 or ME, at least. Scroll to the bottom.

Actually DirectCD puts a UDF reader on every disc, since it's such a small file. Usually you'll see a message saying something like "do you want to install the reader", etc when the disc first loads. How old is the CD-Rom at work? The other night a friend of mine couldn't get the UDF reader to load from a disc of mine. Windows squawked about an "illegal operation". Older drives just don't support reading RW's.

Yes. I mean UDF driver. WinME installed it and all went OK but Win2K doesn't. At least automatically. So my question is how to install UDF driver (manually?) for Win2K? SP3 doesn't solve the situation.

p.s. all cd drives are 1-2 years old.

I double checked the link I posted, and noticed it said the UDF reader works for Windows 2000. Since your drives aren't very old, I'm at a loss. Who made your drives? There might be a firmware revision for it.

Just download and install the UDF reader from the link provided by JoJo Gunn on your work machine. It is at the bottom of the page.

Yes, thanks for the link. I installed UDF driver and now I can read all my data. But that driver is very unstable.
    Anyway thanks for the help!
