Using G3 as external HD for new G4

    A friend has a G3 and a G4 networked together using a Belkin router.
He can drop files onto the G4 from the G3.

He wants to be able to simply open the G3 hard drive from the G4 so as to use the G3 as an extension of the G4.

Not knowing MACs myself; is he missing something in setting the permissions or what?

Do you know what I mean?
Can someone tell me how to make his G4 use the G3 hard drive as an external hard drive or can this not be done?

    Thanks for reading.

what type of machines are they? the ibook and powerbook have a little feature called firewire target disk mode which would allow you to start one of the machines as an external firewire drive... I don't know if this works on desktop systems.. and of course you would need firewire....ok well here is a site that helps explain the process.... looks like desktops are indeed supported..:
