    windows media player

I used to be able to play a new music cd and the cd information would show up on the tracks the name of the artist and everything else. Now i get a statement (this page can not be displayed. Is there a reason for this or am I doing something wrong or not doing something right.

Did you change your internet settings? Try connecting to the internet before loading WMP.

I can not get the media guide to open. It keeps saying this page can not be displayed. I am not sure but I have Version 9 now. Has anyone else experinced this problem.. This used to work just fine. I am not sure when it went out. I would use restore but it will not work either.

I tried version 9 and it quit working completely the day after it was installed. You'd be better off getting rid of it, especially since version 8 does an excellent job. You need to use System Restore to get rid of it since Microsoft didn't have enough foresight to include a simple uninstaller.

I've found that even with WMP 8, I get the "cannot be displayed" message from time to time. The server that it connects to seems to be very unreliable & slow. And don't get me started on Internet Radio, 75% of the stations can't be connected to

But then that's Microsoft for ya

That is another problem I can not get System Restore to work either. It has not worked for quite a while. I don't know what happend to it.. I seem to be having problems with XP home that I never had on the other computer with Windows 98 SE

In that case the best thing to do is an over the top re-install of WinXP. You'll keep all your apps & settings, and it'll put WMP 8 back, & almost certainly cure your System Restore problem as well. You just need to re-install SP1 & any other Windows Updates afterwards.

Boot up with your Windows CD in the drive, go past the "R" Recovery Console option & you'll come to an option to re-install an existing installation. Choose that.

Here are a couple of excellent resources:
