    Where To D/L DirectX 8.1

Went to MS site and searched for DirectX 8.1.

When I click on the link it automatically takes me to the download for 9.0.

I know 9.0 is the latest version, but I don't know if I want to jump from 7.0 to 9.0.

Running WinMe, AMD Athlon 950Mhz, NVIDIA GeForce MX 200 (I think), SB Live Value.

Btw I would Ghost my system before doing the install in case of bad side effects.

Btw2 I have not had any problems with DirectX 7.0, but thought maybe it was time for an upgrade to a high version ??

Daisy, here's a bit of irony for you.

I ghosted my Win98 partition and installed DirectX 8.1 (have left WinMe as is for now).

I then installed a demo of a game called Tale Of The Druids and was playing it most of last night.

I got a bit stuck and decided to read the readme.rtf and in that it quoted the minimum specifications and one of them was DirectX 8.0

So, by chance, I had decided to upgrade to 8.1 thus satisfying a requirement of this demo without even realising it.

If I can be bothered I should restore the ghost image and see if the game plays ok with DirectX 7.0.

Thanks for pointing me to the right spot.

Nix, there's an 8.1B version. Here's the link. The page still loads, but I didn't try to download it.

EDIT-so I went and tried it, since I had to test the link, and the download is still available.

DirectX Buster is a DirectX uninstaller for Windows 9X, ME and W2K And there are some versions of DX there also. Yes, I have used them and DirectX Buster .

[Moderator edit] A member pointed out your original link was to a German page, and didn't get you directly to the DirectX Buster software (although it had a well-defined link to the dxbuster page, albeit the German page) and had links to porn sites. Die neue Link ist ohne Pornographie, und ist auf Englisch

    So Funny

Thanks for all the additional posts guys.

Funnily enough my wife bought me Baldur's Gate with expansion pack for Christmas and it requires DirectX 8.0 as a minimum.

So my whim to install 8.1 has proved beneficial after all.
