deleting for good off my hdd

may seem like a silly question or just a real basic one, but here goes:
how do i really and truly get rid of junk off my hard drive? when i go into the registry i see all kinds of crap (programs long deleted) and the junk that comp makers (compaq) figure that you must have-six different internet providers? AOL- right, no thanks..i like a clean system without the extra baggage...thanks all

I use Nortons clean sweep to clean the registry, also after I uninstall a program I go into the programs folder and delete the folder for the program I uninstalled if it still exists there and it usually does.

    Hi wojo629

There are several free shredding apps on the net that will right x's and o's over deleted files using the recommended department of defence system. I use a free wiper to delete my files. It installs so that you have the option in the right click for files in windoz explorer

It offers one the choice of from single pass to DOD (7pass) wiping.

There are several others that are available that do roughly the same thing.

I believe the app I use is called BC Wipe.

Regcleaner is one of the best programs to clean stuff out of the registry and it's free..

It makes backups too.. always important when deleting stuff from the reg.

Add/Remove Pro does a much, much better job than the add/remove in windows. And it also lets you remove those from the the regs.
