a new & bigger hard drive..help!!
anyone have any ideas on where to get some detailed (dumbed down) instructions on doing a hard drive replacement?
system is: Compaq,W98SE,476mhz,AMD K6-2,344mb,8G HD..
moving on up to Western digital 40G/7200rpm..any help would be great!! thanks!

I do believe you will find that you have a BIOS limitation of 32GB for the hdd. Also, the power supply maybe awful small.

thanks train, to find the BIOS limitation & power supply limitations i need to do.....? i do have Belarc Advisor print out in front me now...12k+ posts!! my god !.. thanks for the reply..time to open the wallet and get a new machine maybe...know anyone who wants to buy a new hdd in the box??!!

I'd give it a shot and partition the drive into a 6 gig primary to load windows on . divvy up the rest as you wish but keep the clustersize about 16k (about 15-25 gigs)

After you get it fdisked and Finally get to windows, you will see part of the hdd is missing.
Look on the ps, should be a label with the size on it, like 85Watts or 120watts as examples.
