    Strange Download exe

    HP MODEL 9722
    WINDOWS XP PRO
    850MHZ AMD ATHLON
    256MB RAM
    AGP 4X GRAPHICS CARD
    NVIDIA TNT2 PRO




    Found in my download file : openifvalid.exe ??
    Did a Google search and couldn't find anything
    24.0kb.......any sugestions please?


    Also the past two nights have run HD Valet and System Mechanic........when I have tried to run Word XP......have had the message to insert the cd......did and ok,but is one of these Progs deleting an important file?


    All suggestions will be greatly appreciated !

    you have a up to date virus scanner?? eg: NAV 2002/2003.


    email it to me if you like and i will scan it for a virus and get back to you, but dont execute that file

    I agree,,, the name alone sounds strange...

    Try some online virus scanner if you do'nt have one installed...

    Thanks Asendin for your reply.
    I have Mcafee and AVG running , along with Sygate Pro.( Not Paranoid!
    Have scanned the file with both and no virus's detected.
    ( Also ran Adaware and nothing there)
    Do download a lot of Prog's,so this was prob installed by one of them.
    I will isolate it for a week or so and then if it's not intefiering with anything I will dump the Ba.....!

    You can open it using a hex editor and look for any string if you're still curious. Sometimes it helps because sometimes the messages a program pops up are stored as a simple string. A dissassembler will also do this, as will the strings command under Unix.
