Slot 1 Processors

Ok I know they are old but my computer runs so good I don't really see they reason to but a new one just yet. Right now I am running a P2 400MHZ slot 1 CPU with 100mhz FSB and 512 cache. I have a new P3 700 MHZ 133FSB with 256 L2 cache. Will it work on my motherboard? I am using a Asus P3B-F board and with the bios update it will run up to 800MHZ. I am concerned about the front side bus though. I am only using 100mhz memory at the moment but if I have to upgrade to run the new chip it isn't a problem for me.

Another thing that I don't understand is the voltage on the processors. I know mine is 2.0 but I think the new one is 1.6 or something like that...will this matter? Thanks for all the help.

Intel Celeron Processor 266MHz - 466MHz.
Intel Pentium II Processor 233MHz - 450MHz.
Intel Pentium III Processor 450MHz - 600MHz.

CPU Core Voltage can be increased from 2.0V to 2.4V in increments of 0.05V

BIOS FIX: Support 566MHz and 850MHz CPU with clock ratio equal or greater than 8.5x.

So a 100FSB x 8.5 = 850MHz

I looked at the manual, and unless I missed it, it only support up to 100Mhz FSB, so the 133FSB will not work.

If you use the 700 at 100 then you have not gained anything.

Do you have the manual? Does it support 133FSB????

Before you install the new CPU I would "load default settings" in the bios...

That will set everything back to "original",,, if you changed anything...
The board should reconized and set the FSB and Vcore (voltage)...

If for some reason the CPU is'nt reconized correctly,,, i.e. as a lower speed,,, than according to THIS ARTICLE you should be able to make manual adjustments to the FSB...

-btw- From what I've read the MB does'nt support PC133...

I don't have the book for the board but I am pretty sure when I bought it it said it only supports 100mhz FSB. I think I was just hoping that there was a way to use the processor either way. For some reason I thought i caould still run it at 100mhz even though it is made for 133mhz.

Running a 700mhz 133FSB cpu at 100FSB will give you 526mhz...

But according to THIS ARTICLE,,, ,,, You can change the FSB in the bios to 133 if needed...

This will "speed up" the entire system though and the rest of your hardware might not like it... Now that I'm thinking PC133 might help with that...
