    Fatal Exception OE 0167:BFF55319

    Hi there,

I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop and yesterday, the hibernation feature decided to give up the ghost. The screen instantly goes blank, flashes a couple of times and is dead to all key presses. However, the system lights stay on.

The only way out is either Cnt-Alt-Del or press the reset button. As the computer boots, I get the following message: Fatal exception OE has occurred at 0167:BFF55319. Current application will be terminated. Press any key, etc. etc.’ Press any key and everything appears to load.

I have run SFC and everything was hunky dory. I have checked Bootlog.txt and am informed that file ndis2sup.vxd has failed to load. Replaced it but still I get the blue screen and hibernate does not work.

Checked Google and MS KnowledgeBase for 0167:BFF55319 and found zilch.

Would be grateful if anyone could throw some light on what is happening and how I resolve the problem. Would restoring a previous reg backup help?

The only new program I have recently installed is Rain, to help keep the processor cool. However, this was installed about three weeks ago and everything was working fine until yesterday.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rex

There should be a keypress sequence to toast the hibernation file on the boot - check the manual.

Failing that, delete the c:\windows\toshiber.dat file from DOS if you can find it. It should be rebuilt. If that isn't the case, then if there is a halloc.exe file, it can be used to destroy and create the hibernation file on most of the older toshibas.

As you can tell - I haven't looked your model up Out of curiosity which is it? Is this 98First Edition (gold) or 98SE?

    IMM,

    Thanks for your reply

Don't understand what 'There should be a keypress sequence to toast the hibernation file on the boot - check the manual.' means. Would be grateful for an explanation!

Do you mean that if I delete toshiba.dat file, it will be rebuilt when I reboot? Does the same apply to halloc.exe?

    I'm using W98SE on a Toshiba Satellite 2100CDS.

I have tweaked the hibernation setting but to no avail.

    IMM,

I have found the course of all my hibernation/ Fatal error message.

I have been trying to get word 2000 to display and print Japanese, vertical text, starting on the right of the page. In fact, I have another thread to this effect. So far, I have had no luck.

However, I did find that there is a font (@ms PGothic) that should do what I want. Apparently, the @ signifies vertical. I found this font on a Japanese Word site and downloaded it as a .zip file. Opened it and it became an .exe file which I tried to install. Somehow, it did not work nor was it visible in the font list, so I ignored it.

But searching through everything today, I found a reference to it in the font folder; deleted it because I'm not going to use it, and not only has the hibernation function returned to normal but the Fatal Error message at start-up has vanished.

Sure beats the hell out of me!

    Thanks for you advice.

    Rex
