need help with cable internet IP address
I have Cox high speed internet access, two computers, and only one connection at a time. I have a new Siemens 1019 10/100 ethernet NIC card. I used to have a DFE card that worked good on each computer but the Siemens card isn't working or my connection isnt working.
-When I use this current computer (dad's computer), my internet connection works. When I use my computer, my internet connection won't work. I tried reinstalling the Cox software but it can't even retrieve my computer's IP address.
-Do you guys know what the problem is, what I can do to get my IP address working or what settings I need, other than calling COX support?
thanks

I am unfamiliar with Cox (or how your network is set up) but if you aren't using ICS from 98SE then is it possible that you have 2 MAC addresses registered with Cox? If so you will have to enter their online setup and change the MAC from your old NIC to the MAC of the new one.
If you are instead using a router then it'll probably be only the MAC of the router and you can disregard the above.
Did they give you an address to go to as you first connected?
The set of numbers I'm referring to as the MAC is a set of 6 16 bit hex numbers such as 00-ff-ee-11-22-33 and will show as the "Adapter Address" if you run winipcfg.exe
