DHCP lease question
I'm trying to find where my printers went. The only IP leases indicated in DHCP manager are for active users, not active devices.
I thought all assigned IP addresses from a DHCP server were listed in that server's DHCP manager console. (Under the appropriate subnet) but all I can find is users. Where should I be looking for networked devices? (Three printers) All are working just fine, but I can't find the IP.
I know I can go to the printers and get there IP's they are currently using from their configuration page, but one is a copier and it doesn’t list the IP if it's using DHCP.
Anyone have any suggestions?

im assuming your using lan cards in your printers ..
i know at my last job we used laser 5's and 6's w/ jetdirect cards ... and the only way to gather that information (this was 1 1/2 years ago) was with the priopritary software from hp ...

You're absoulutely right, onedaddycat. If your DHCP server has leased an address, it should be listed, even if it is a reservation. So, are you sure that these printers are DHCP clients? Perhaps they have static IP addresses?

Yes, I am using LAN cards in the three printers in question.
I still can't find why the DHCP manager doesn’t list a lease it must have approved, but anyway you helped me.
I remembered I had hp's configuration software on my old machine, and that it listed all the printers on the network.
Even those that weren't hp printers, and sure enough there was the copier's IP 10.0.0.12
Thanks

TropicalBound, you may be correct about the static IP's, that might explain one of the three, My Plotter does have a static IP, but the outer two, a Toshiba copier and a Lexmark color laser are definitely using DHCP.

Usually, the name of the printer in DHCP in not obvious. It may look like NPIxxxxxx, where xxxxxx is the last six digits of the printer NICs MAC address. You can usually obtain the MAC address of the printer NIC on the NIC itself. Then, in your DHCP console, sort the display by the Unique ID column (which shows the MAC addresses). This will make it easier to look for your specific MAC address.
Hope this helps!
