OE6 very slow to load!!

Greetings!

I am running WinXP Pro. This is not upgrade; new installation.

Problem: Outlook Express 6 has become VERY slow loading. Once loaded, it's okay. After I did a "restore" it returned to normal. Then later, it became very, very slow loading. The spash screen stays up 30-40 seconds and the program finally appears in another 40 seconds. BTW, I ran Ad-aware, just to be sure. Nada.

I examined what I did between the period of time it worked okay and when I discovered it was slow. Script Sentry and Fresh Download were installed. Disable them but no improvement.

One thing I have noticed - this may or may not have anything to do with this, but - I disable windows messenger in group policy so that it will not run nor auto start. However, msmsgs still is in the startup sequence in System Configuration Utility:
"C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background at location: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

1. How do I completely disable windows messenger?

2. What causes OE6 to be so slow in loading? What am I overlooking?

Slow Loading of Outlook Express When Messenger is Disabled

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}\InProcServer32

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}\LocalServer32

For both, in the right pane, right click Default/Modify/Delete the value data.

Hotmail is slow after disabling/removing Messenger

The side effects are not known as of yet: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Messenger.MsgrObject
Right click on the Messenger.MsgrObject key and select rename. Rename it to Messenger.MsgrObjectold

This will prevent Messenger from loading when you access your account via the Hotmail web page, it will also prevent the delay when Messenger has been removed or disabled.

A million thanks to ezeebob. I just posted a question about the same subject (OE6 slow to open) and did one last search and found this string.

I edited the registry with the info you gave and now it opens up beautifully. Thank you so much.

One last question - I downloaded and installed Win XP Pro SP1 yesterday and I'm noticing that when I open up OE6, my Inbox isn't expanded to show all my folders within it. Is there a way to make it expand as a default?

One more question about this topic.

After making the edits to the registry, I'm now noticing the following errors in my Event Viewer regarding DCOM:


Unable to start a DCOM Server: {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541}. The error:
"The system cannot find the file specified. "
Happened while starting this command:
-Embedding

The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.


Is this a problem or should I ignore it?
