    another bad AVG install?

Mods - although this security issue is not exclusively internet related, please move the thread if it's best suited in another forum.

I thought I had a problem with my AVG install, so I uninstalled, dl'd and installed a fresh copy of avg6384fu_free.exe, BUT...

RegCleaner's reg cleaning function hit an avgcc32.exe reg entry as removeable?/ orphaned?/ disconnected? (sorry, hope that's clear enough) - it's never done that before.

Aware of my option to reinstall the RegCleaner b/u, I removed the listing (thinking it might have been associated with my old install).
    I was wrong.
AVG did not auto start at next startup...
    so I replaced the backup.
Still no AVG loading at startup!
Got creative, and simply dragged a shortcut of avgcc32.exe to startup folder.
That got avgcc32.exe starting at startup, BUT...
    - NOw avgcc32.exe is listed and checked twice (msconfig), BUT...
    - They're the only AVG listings now, AND...
    - It's the only AVG listing now via C-A-D
(coulda swore there used to be at least 2 or 3)

Was going to just take another kick at the can with another fresh install, but thought I'd lay this on y'all too see if you've got any insight/suggestions to offer - anyone?
For full AVG protection, what files are supposed to be listed in msconfig and C-A-D?
    TIA...

Hi, ^dAvEy^, sounds like either a bad install, or you let regclean screw it up. Either way, a full uninstall (including a registry cleaning ) and reinstall seems called for. I've been using AVG for over a year, and love it. Easy updates, no false alarms, and it's never missed anything, yet...

"avgcc32.exe /Startup" at the Run key, value name AVG_CC
"avgserv9.exe" at the RunServices key, value name avgserv9.exe
Both of these keys are Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Both of these show up in C-A-D
I believe this is what you are looking for.

^dAvEy^, is the boot-up scanner running at POST? -It should. Do you have the Avgserv9 file aboard? It should be running at startup, if Avgcc32 is. You might also want to run the AVG control center and go through your options. Still think a re-install is appropriate, maybe even a fresh download, first. I had a similar prob about 6 mos back, and that's what I did...

    Junker:
I hadn't had any probs with AVG for the couple years I'd been using it too - hindsight, I could have titled the thread better.
    markp62:
cool route - I'll see if I can't get things sorted by adding the entries manually, rather than another reinstall just yet.
Thanks fellas - I'll get back with results.

It seems I made a typo.
    avgserv9.exe is the one.
    Sorry about that.

    No worries, markp62.
I had a lousy install, somehow, but the strings you pointed to helped me clear it out. Looks like I've got it now - thanks.
