    Smile WFW Fax

    Hello,

I am using WFW and have just started with the included fax program. I have set it up and it works well.

However, each time I use it it goes through about 90 seconds of talking with my modem.

I assume it is initializing it.

Can this be sped up? (by changing ini files or other settings - I am comfortable with doing internal changes...)

    Thank you for your help...

Does it take that long on ALL faxes (assuming that you have tried sendig to different fax machines). Sometimes it takes longer on some fax machines than on others to negotiate a compatible connection speed. Also, this is a modem function (hardware) as much as a software function. Still, 90 seconds is not that bad.

    Thank you jdc2000,

The wait (~90 seconds everytime) is while it initializes before dialing. This is different from the dialing and connecting times.

I ask this because when I had win3.1 on the same machine + modem, I was using Electrasoft Fax program. This combination would initialize in 4 seconds.

Then I upgraded to wfw3.11 and Electrasoft Fax would not work. So I switched to the built in fax portion of wfw3.11

This current set-up faxes properly every time. I was wondering about the initiallization time lag...

I have never used the built-in WFW3.11 fax program (didn't even know there was one). I always used WinFax Pro (Versions 3 and 4). When you say 'initializing', do you mean that it takes 90 seconds for the program to load, or 90 seconds for the program to appear to start doing anything after it has loaded and you click on the 'Send' button? WinFax works like another printer driver, and it doesn't take much longer than a standard printer driver to load when it is called. If it isn't the modem negotiation time that is taking 90 seconds, I'd say you'll probably have to live with the delay unless there is an .ini file for the program that has some settings you can change. You could search for all .ini files on the PC and open them up to see what program they might be for.
