The best pop-up stopper:your experience, please?

I am getting so those &*^$@ pop-up ads are making me CrAzY.
I'm NOT too impressed with panicware's pop-up stopper, have tried seeveral others & don't care for them either.
I'm about ready to kick the $30 for adsubtractpro and I'm looking for opinions on that, or other programs to KILL these things.

Well I have pop-up stopper companion integrated into the IE toolbar , combined with ZoneAlarm pro adblocking set to high and they do a pretty good job , no complaints here ......

Before that I tried POW and PopNot both are ok but the new version of PopNot drains resources down to nothing and you have to c-a-d out of it

you say you haven't been impressed with popup stopper but I never get ANY popups. EVER!

the trick is to set it to aggressive mode. that way nothing gets through.

this, does, admittedly pose a further problem..... legitimate popups are prevented (when you click a link and it's supposed to popup or when you right click and select "open in new window"). This can be circumvented by holding ctrl while performing the click though. Additionally, it can be turned off and on very quickly by double-clicking its taskbar icon - very useful.

My advice would be to use this, and have it turned on when surfing sites that you know to be, erm, "poppy" ( ), or if they are unknown sites, and turned off for the sites you know to be pop-up free.

Meanwhile the all-conquering google toolbar has the ability to suppress popups that occur upon exiting a page....

I have tried some popup stoppers, some have slowed my connection down while running, some have made me crash. But one thing that has worked to stop the popups that create other popups is using the internet lock on the free ZA. Just engage it, close the window, another will open but will not be able to connect out and keep the chain going. I know it is a slight hassle, but it works. You will have to disengage the lock to keep on surfing, and don't set IE to pass the lock.

I've been using Popup Stopper for a long time and it works fine for me. I get no popups and it's easy to hold down CTRL when I open a new browser window. Interestingly, if I click on a link in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that is supposed to open in a new window and Popup Stopper blocks it, it opens in the same window. I wonder how they do that.

I hate Popups.

Well, my method is a little different. Under "Security" settings in IE, I disable all scripting and java for "Internet". Under "Trusted Sites", I set it up like Internet would normally be. Remove https requirement for trusted, then you can add the sites you want to use scripting to the "Trusted Sites". This way, all new pages you visit use no WSH, Java or VBS. IF you trust the page, add you can add it to trusted sites for full functionallity.

I actually have only 2 sites in trusted and everything else is run without any scripting.

Very good idea there, Daufuski. If you have the Power Tweaks Web Accessories installed for IE 5.x, so much the easier. It puts Add to Trusted Zone and Add to Restricted Zone under Tools in the IE toolbar. These won't work in IE6 though. You can get those and a couple more accessories here.

I use this Free browser , which has a built in pop up stopper . ( don't add , About Blank , to the existing filter list )
Uses very little resources ( No Add's ) & is as good as any other browser .
Intergrates quitely into your system , does not take over . You can still run your normal browser , if you wish .
Uses the IE engine , but is very fast & stable .

and you have no "bad" cookies and minimize pop-ups.
