Slow Typing In Replies To Posts
When I have been typing replies to threads lately, I have been noticing a slow down as I type tothe point that I can type and the cursor sits doing nothing and then suddenly my words appear.
I noticed just now that there was some stupid advertisment for Voice XML (or something like that) running in the side bar to the right =====>.
Every time the animation in it began, my typing stopped.
I right clicked on it so I could post the link and it is some MacroMedia flash thing.
So, whilst I understand that advertising pays for this board, I thnk that it is a load of bollocks if it is detrimental to it's operational speed.
The add I had during this post was for Datamation and it wasn't MacroMedia based and I typed plenty fast.

It's the one for VoiceXML Planet Conference & Expo.
You right click on it and the only option is About MacroMedia Flash 6.
Axe that ad it's a pain in the butt.

Even on 56k dialup, I don't have any problems typing.
The only way to get rid of the ads is for the members to send in their paychecks to help pay for the site.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Hi
You could always block the ads if you use ZA Pro or some other similar software?

It's only that specifc add that's running as a MMFlash.
Just locks me up while the animation is running.

Nix--You are not alone. Glad to hear someone else had the same experience. Misery loves company.
Next time it happens I will try turning off Show Pictures and/or use Toggle Image.exe.

Mine wouldn't even pay for your fancy avatar - j/k
I'm running ZA and something like webwasher on a dial-up connection - no problem in the typing section here.

there is an option is norton internet security
firewall to block repeat animations, at all sites or certain sites.
perhaps the other firewalls do also.

can you believe i re-formatted because i thought something goofy was going on in my machine?
and this typing things was one of them?
jeesh, it was very apparent and I am on cable.
(in case you wonder why I formatted... hey, it needed a cleanup anyway... I had been testing too many programs.)
Kind regards, Jaak.
When I pull my bootstraps, why don't I load Windows?

Well isn't that inetresting, that's been driving me up the wall, and I thought it was my PC as well!! I've got an ADSL connection, and it seems like it's only those of us that are using broadband are getting this - I don't think I'll go back to a 56k dial-up though
Nick.

Hi, I have noticed it on other forums and at different times over the last couple of years.
I always thought it might have something to do with my being in Australia but evidently that is not so.
I don't think it is limited to this forum and I am typing at a fast speed at the moment with no trouble.
I do type fast as I had to learn it in the forces for radio ops a long long time ago. Peace Mal

It would seem to me that the type of connection to the internet would essentially be irrellevant to the problem.. it would certainly take more time to download the SW graphics but it's the use of resources and/or the processor by the graphics that is having the negative effect... shown by the fact that even after it's downloaded some still have trouble typing.
