Jouni's RegCleaner
I have a couple questions regarding a few of the items RegCleaner is bringing to my attention:
QUESTION #1:
Do I need to keep HIWIRE on my system?
And if not, since it's not listed in ADD/REMOVE Programs, how might I go about the ridding?
HIWIRE is listed as NEW under the software tab:
I"ve noticed HIWIRE before, but ADAWARE never hit on it and I just thought it was one of the Windows related progs necessary for particular functions, like ActiveX, or something else.
Finding it today listed as a NEW piece of software to my system prompted me to look into HIWIRE.
AS IT TURNS OUT, the company's slogan is:
"Your streaming Ad Management Solution"
(from the HIWIRE company website)
Personally, the only solution I need re streaming ads is how to get rid of them all together!
Here are what RegCleaner identified as the related keys:
Author : [Unknown]
Software : Hiwire
Age : Old [read as NEW earlier today]
If you choose to remove this item these keys would be removed
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hiwire
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.TransportCenter.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.TransportCenter
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserRegRequest.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserRegRequest
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserListenRequest.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.UserListenRequest
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.Register.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Hiwire.Register
QUESTION #2:
After running ReCLeaner, I have 4 recurring entries.
Do any of you have any insights as to what these are and why they are recurring?
Root: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
key: \icofile\open\command
Entry's name: {KEY
Value: {KEY}
and 2 more listed the same, if substitute icofile with
curfile &
anifile
the 4th recurring entry is clearly related to my zip program, PowerDesk:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PoweDesk\shellopen\command
TIA...

Do you have any internet radio clients installed? Here's a page with maybe a clue:

You can change the option to list as new or old manually in Regcleaner (Options\Preferences\Mark as Old). I use manually myself. The list is maintained in the \Regcleaner\old.dat file, you can use notepad to edit it. I do this in case a program comes up again unexpectedly, like something you don't want in the first place.
anifile: animated cursor
icofile: icon file
curfile: cursor
The only subkeys that that I have on my system under each of these is DefaultIcon with the value of default="%1". It sounds like you may have an icon editor or creater program (right click on a icon file, then open or edit).
The entry for powerdesk is a file association with a program, like double click on a txt file in Windows Explorer you open notepad with the file loaded.

Thanks MarkP62,
I didn't realize the option for new/old programs. I like that.
Davey, I would look for HIWIRE program in Add/Remove first.

I wish I understood why you change the setting.
For me, if I haven't used the program before, it says NEW, if I have, OLD - why change it?

My mistake - IN my original post, I said C-A-D, when I meant ADD/REMOVE - no entry there
This is what I'm hearing:
Some folks know what those related files and programs are, but not why they are related to hits by RegCleaner, or why they recur after cleaning?
Thanks very much, you lot, for the information and your attention.
Since RegCleaner backs up anyhow, I'm going to just remove HIWIRE via RegCleaner.
