    Question change file attributes

I recently formatted and reloaded win98. I also restored all my personal files from cdr's that I had burned. I think I know how to get rid of the read-only attribute using start|run|command c: attrib -r *.* /s. this would get rid of the read-only. Sadly, my personal files are not all in one folder, but spread out over many. My question is, are some files supposed to be read only? system files maybe? I don't want to change them if i'm not supposed to.
Thank you very much in advance.

Yes. Some files supposed to be read-only. These are system files Io.sys, Msdos.sys, Dblspace.bin, Drvspace.bin in the C:\ root directory. But they have read-only attribute for safe purpose only. The system work fine even if you remove read-only attribuites of these files. So I think it will not be a problem if you try to remove read-only attributes on all files on C: drive.

But if you not want to change attributes of the files belonging to win98 system use Attrib command just in your personal folder(s).
    Good luck, Igor
