ASUS A7N266-E with an AMD Athlon XP 2000???
15 Seconds
I just finished a system with an ASUS A7N266-E motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 2000+ cpu, and 512 MB DDR Ram. Everythings is fine, but I do have one question... When I boot up the system and after the POST, I get about 15 seconds of just a black screen before the Windows XP logo shows. How can I decrease or remove those 15 seconds of having the black screen, or can I? The total time it's taking the system to get to the desktop is about a minute.

Try going into your bios and see if any of your controllers (i.e.: primary master/slave, secondary master/slave) are set to auto detect. Especially any that are not installed. Change not installed drives to "not installed" this will get most of the delay out.
You can also manually configure the settings for drives you do have installed. This will save a little more time, but probibly not worth the effort.
Mostly just make sure controllers that do not have drives attached are not set to auto-detect.
Hope that helps.

This is a little after the fact and doesnt apply to your problem but if you installed the ACR-A6CH audio card that came with it did you have any trouble with the driver install? This is my second board with that card on it and I am going nuts trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. The first time I asked Asus they were no help. Would appreciate if you could give me any insight to this.
Thanks

dd2,
I did have a problem loading in on Windows XP Pro., but not on a Windows 2000. It took me a couple of tries on XP, but when I installed it on Win2000, it took the first time. Instead of installing all the drivers at once, I installed one and then rebooted, and then went on to install the next...
I have that card on 2 systems, (2000 & XP) the only problem I have (assuming it's the card) is I can't listen to music CD's using WinAmp or MusicMatch, only by using Windows Media Player will they play. Do you have that problem too? It'll play them (WinAmp and MusicMatch), but I get no sound. hth
[Just a note to my previous question concerning the "15 second black screen delay", I did get it resolved.]

I will make sure to let you know about Winamp, etc. when I get this hog going right. Thanks for the advice about rebooting after each driver install. Will get back with you.
