Does anyone know what this is and if I need it?
Hi,
I was just at Windows Updates and it lists this for my computer:
"Windows Update has detected that you have the following hardware devices installed on or attached to your computer. Windows Update has an updated version of the device driver software that enables you to use this hardware with Microsoft Windows.
No updates of this type are available at this time.
Intel Corporation - Storage
53 KB/ Download Time: < 1 min
Intel Hdc Driver Version 6.20.2014; Released on July 25 2001."
I recently updated my Intel 810e video driver with Intel(R) 82810E Driver revision 4.13.01.295l - 6.5.2 product version released Nov. 14, 2001.
It seems to me the above item at Windows Updates is relating to my video driver, but my release date is more recent - and I don't even know what that item is.
I'd appreciate any help in explaining what this is and if I need it.
Thanks.
Sincerely, Nancee

I would think it to be the hard disk controller myself. and I have no intel chips in my 3 computers to check that idea out

Thanks for your reply Train. I think I might be better off passing this update then.

Always know what you're upgrading and why. Just because it's newer and free doesn't make it better.

Thanks Mark. I can just envision myself applying that update and looking at a black screen - and not knowing how to reverse it!

They're probably just trying to be helpful(yeah,,right,,)but Win Up also told me it had an update for the Promise ATA100 integrated on my Asus A7V133 board. When i went into Device Mangler and checked, the version i had was newer than the one offered. Would suggest checking in this way to see if what they offer really "is" an update.Or,did it just detect your hardware and "that's" why it showed up?
Don't "do" hardware updates, unless from Mfg's site myself. Might be i'm skitterish, but better safe than sorry imho...

I think you're 100% right Ridge. The last time I questioned a hardware update from Windows it was for a Compaq something or other. I have an HP!!! I'll just ignore anything regarding hardware from now on.

Sincerely, Nancee
