This issue i identical with respect to everything but the Novell app. I have had the one lone and two short beep scenario for a period of three months. Compaq dragged it out till the warranty expired then they told me that it was the motherboard or an aspect thereof. Do I start with all new motherboard or is there a means of troubleshooting the video card once I restablish the video (temporarily) by reformatting with OEM 2 disc set? How much should it cost to replace a Cmos battery?

Opovet thanks for the suggestion. Embarassing as it is I didn't think about trying that. Very good advice.

If it turns out to be the video card, does anyone know the location of it on a compaq presasrio 1235? Is it a chip? card? I know about video cards when it comes to desktops but not much knowledge in the laptop department.

    On a side note:

Whatever happened to the days when you got documentation with your computer that was useful? It's especially bad with laptops? Is it that much to ask? Anyone know why these manufacturers don't provide us with these materials?

If you go to the compaq support site you can find all kinds of info on you lapper encluding the disassembly instructions. I did not see a post error as you said. I believe I worked on a 1235 last year for a friend and to upgrade the hard drive I had to take the keyboard and touchpad out to get to the hard drive. If I remeber correctly the LCD had a cable from it to the motherboard.

Just wanted to post back with resolution.

When I opened up the lapper, I noticed a loose cable connection from the touchpad to the motherboard. Beleive it or not, this was the cause of all the problems. Once secured system including video booted up fine.

    Thanks to everyone who helped.
