    Vendor Ratings for purchasing components

Since this was briefly touched on in the new Delta Thread I thought I would take it upon myself to start this one....
I have personally used several vendors from the pricewatch site. and I will list my thoughts on some this morning and the others that I will have to look up receipts for tonight and will post that info also. www.computergeeks.com
Products are usually well priced but the shipping times take longer than necessary. www.computerbuys2000.com
connect computers....I have purchased several pieces of memory from them (20 sticks approximately) this year and have 2 of them that were bad. I sent 1 back and they tested it and said it was good and sent it back to me....I tested it again in 3 different machines and got blue screen errors on all 3 so I sent it back again and griped heavily until the did agree to replace it. www.peachpc.com
very fast shipping and reasonable pricing http://www.rich-pacific.com/
purchased more memory here for low pricing...1 out of 3 were bad....and since it was only 7.00 for 128mb I didnt even bother to send this back
The latest mobo/cpu combo I bought came from http://www.buycyberpc.com/
cyberdreamz is very fast and I am very happy with the service and product so far...
    www.edgemicro.com
Also very fast The only complaint I have about this company they are here in springfield and will not let you pick up product via will call only by shipping it ups. I find this weird but they offer great service and same day shipping on most items
I think this about covers my online shopping places..I want to hear/read some of your online shopping stories and opinions

I have used CPUsolutions. They aren't the cheapest, but they had good numbers at Reseller ratings and they did good by me. Shipment actually arrived a day early without any problems. Well packed in styrofoam peanuts too. My cats love those.

Might want to check out http://www.resellerratings.com/

For example on a scale of 1 to 7 (7 being best) they rate

PeachPc 4.3 with 27 people voting.
    Computergeeks 4.5 with 34 votes
    Connect Computers(computerbuys2000) 2.1 with 15 votes
Rich Pacific 2.5 with 5 votes
    etc etc
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

These companies will have to be good if they want to sell their products because of the info available on them. I use resellers all the time as a reference to start with and it doesn't take very many clicks to make up an opinion. And our forums can help as they do by each member posting experiences when a question comes up.

I used Resellerratings before I purchased anything at CPU Solutions. It's a good place to get an idea about vendors, but I think asking people in a forum setting such as this is a good idea too. The one problem I find with a site like Resellerratings is a potential for slanted reviews. Keep in mind that a person who has gotten screwed by a vendor is much more likely to post a negative opinion, than a satisfied person is likely to post a positive one. Satisfied buyers are just happy to have their stuff working and don't bother. Unsatisfied buyers want to vent and warn.

So don't just look at the numbers...read the reviews and find out why a person is issuing a negative or positive review. That being said, Resellerratings offers a valuable service for people venturing into on-line computer/component buying.

Remember...not too many people go back to Walmart, just to tell them how well the new coffee-maker is working. But ALL the people who's coffee-maker didn't work will go there to complain.

Maxx, Very good point.. Also, resellers says they welcome posts by the reseller themselves. As long as they identify as a reseller(uh-huh ),but how many post and DO NOT identify as a reseller??

I find it pays to read very closely not only "what" the problem may be,but how it's presented(read between the lines?) Many times i find it obvious the poster has screwed-up themselves and are just laying blame elsewhere.. i.e.,when the problem "mainly" was because they tried to have something shipped to an address other than the one on their credit card."That" can stop shipment in it's tracks "real" quick..

We all have to remember it's Caveot Emptor when buying anything "anywhere"...

caveat emptor indeed....buyer beware for the latin challenged....You can get some great buys online but you have to be careful do your homework first. Most companies will do returns on defective merchandise but you will have to pay the shipping to send it back unless you are real persuasive.
