What Board & Prosessor to go with!!

    Hi All, It's me again!!
What Board & Prosessor will be compatable with what I am useing now.
(I DO NOT PLAY GAMES)I do use Paint & Photo Programs a Lot,and I must be able to Multitask with at least 2 of these progys.
Like for instance--PSP7 + Ulead Cool 3D, Or Photo Shop 5.5 and any other. I can Not multitask at moment with any two of above progys.
I Have----Intell Pent II 350Mhz with 256 Mbt ram. (The Pentium needs replaceing)OK here goes.--------
Ram is two 128Mbt Dimms SDRam nonECC--3D Blaster Savage 4 32Mgb Graphics--20Gbt.5400 HDDisk---
Hitachi DVD Rom GD-2500--Modular Technology Fusion TV Tuner video/audio tv in--v90 k56flex HSP PCI Modem--Panasonic OC9D 17inch Monitor--onboard Creative SoundBlaster Audio PCI 64-- My Ram + HDDisk + DVD Rom Drive + Graphics Card must work with New Board & Prosessor. Not sure if my TV Tuner card is seperate or atatched to board, if seperate must use that also. I can only afford up to a 1.2Ghz Prosessor + Board + Heatsink & Fan. Got £200 to spend in UK. If I have change from buying them two tell me what i should or could add to it. It all confuses me so PLEASE Help me out on this one. If you know of a place that sells the Board + Prosessor + Heatsink & Fan all madeup and ready PLEASE tell me as that would be simpler for me, might even be cheaper. Hope to hear from you all soon. THANKS. Dennis

Would recommend an Asus CUSL2 and put a 933 P3 on there (can overclock it fairly easily if you wish)--also has onboard sound, so you don't have to get a sound card if you wish.
As those "barebones" combos (mobo, CPU, RAM)--we would have to know what's available to you (watchya' looking at?). I.E. make/model of board, CPU.
Desktop: Intel i7 960 CPU @ 4.0GHz, EVGA Classified 4-Way SLI mobo, 12GB Corsair Dominator-GT 2000 DDR3 RAM, Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB Solid State Drive, Two WD 2TB SATA drives, 2x EVGA GTX 570 Superclocked graphics cards in SLI, Coolermaster HAF X full tower case, OCZ ZX 1250w PSU, Corsair H100 CPU Cooler

As cheap as hardware prices are now, get as much high end components as your wallet will allow. You should be able to shop around carefully and build a kick*** T'Bird system for a grand or less. I definitely recommend a T'bird system over a P4 because Rambus RAM can't hang with DDR RAM. There is nothing on the market now aside from a Sun-Solaris SPARC processor that can hang with a highend T'bird. Of course the SPARC kicks everythings ***butt***. There are new motherboards coming out designed to allow use of DDR with a P4 CPU. I haven't read enough about them to know much about them--I just know they are just now coming on the market and are available.

Ignore the liberal media. They do not report the news but their slanted infotainment version of it, and should be declared enemy combatants for willfully undercutting and sabotaging the ongoing war on terror. It's OK to disagree with the reason for the war, but sabotaging the effort is treason.

Well, I have a question. I have a Pentium Pro 200mhz system, overdrive upgraded to a PII 333mhz with 96meg of ram. And I can run those programs in a multi-tasking environment without a hitch... and cruise the net. Sounds like not a bad system, depending upon the motherboard a processor upgrade would be the cheapest way to go... but I'd still be curious why the current system is running like a dog!?>?

Using a 350 processor...along with too many other programs running in the background maybe. Desktop wallpaper too busy....could be a combo (usually is) of several things.

Hi Bistro, Thanks for answering my query.
Not fussy if its a Pentium or Athlon, (not a Pentium 4).

Abhoth & Bistro,I am baffled as well as to why it runs out of memory when I try to run PSP7 & Ulead Cool 3D or any other 2 paint progys together. I have dissabled lots of progys in the Start-up folder, dont have as many Icons on desktop as I use to have,do have a nice wallpaper which I change once a week, but do have 6 progys in Task-Bar and 14 on bar next to start button. Would that 14 be part of problem, I can't find much difference with most of em taken away.
At start-up I have 80%resources,drops to 64% when I log on to internet,(big drop that)all I have open is VirtualDR. Only just Reformated and F-Disked this last week as I had to take out my Old 8Gig HD because it whent wonky on me. Only got my new 20Gig HD partitioned as C & D, nothing on D yet.
I do use Nortons System Works 2001 and do know that uses lots of resources. (System Doctor runs in background)

Rednek tek, Cost is too much for me to do what you sugested. If I had £600 I could go buy Brand New System in Shop with monitor and everything else that would run faster than this I got hear. And this cost me £1,300 4 years ago. If a 800 or 900 Prosessor would suit me I'd settle for that, would be cheaper too, as all I do is surff the net,use my Paint/Photo progys, and am trying to make a personal web site with a very hungry progy that uses nearly all my resources, thats it. As far as I know this 440BX board will only go as high as 500 prosessor, so that meens I have to buy a Mobo & Prosessor just to go as high as 800. Crafty are these people who make these boards. Wish I was blessed with a tecky brain.
OK here is what I have found----
    Chaintech 7AJA2-100kt 133A motherboard with 6 channel theatre audio. chipset is a Via kt133A/686B, FSB 266Mhz Socket A. £83.43p
CPU--AMD Athlon 1.00Ghz 266FSB AMD Athlon Soa CPU £78.14p must buy new memory though as my old 100hz 2x128Mbt wont work in it.
Found these at www.scan.co.uk. Is the above any good or would an 800 be sufficiant.
Sorry to be long winded, and THANKS to you all for helping. yours DENNIS
