Asus A7V133 experts??
Have been reading several threads about people worrying about CPU temps running at 40c to 50c. Perhaps i had better worry too?
My setup is, InWin A500 mid tower w/300Watt PS. 80mm case fan bottom front pulling in. 80mm rear fan just below PS blowing out. HSF is FOP32-1 with Artic silverII paste on an Athlon T-Bird 850MHZ and,of course the Asus board with fan on VIA chip. Also ATI Radeon 64MB DDR vid card with fan.
Now to the "fun" stuff When i start up, the Asus Probe tells me the CPU temp is about 41c after a few minutes run time. I go online and surf around a bit(15 to 30 min.) and check the temps again with probe and it says 47c to 50c. I do not play games or do intense graphics and i have the case up off the floor on a stand with air flow all around. My room temp runs about 70 to 75f.
I read a post saying to set VCore to 1.7V cause the default 1.886V is too high. I go into BIOS to check mine and the BIOS monitor says the voltage is 1.776 The VCore is set to "auto", but i go to "user define" and it says VCore is 1.50? I set it to 1.45(next step down), save and exit and i get to Windows start screen and no further. I re-boot to BIOS and set it back to "auto"(1.50V) and save/exit. Start-up goes fine and back to Windoze. I run Asus Probe and it says VCore voltage is 1.776V. I reboot to BIOS and look at hardware monitor and it says VCore is 1.72V
Just fired up Asus Probe while typing and it says CPU:51C/123F,,MOBO:33C/91F..My room temp is 75F
Any thoughts?
Oh ya',,no help from "Asus" site that i could find..This may not be a "biggee", but if i can prolong the life of my CPU it would sure be nice.

Vcore depending on the core of the cpu it will be 1.65 or 1.7V as minimum.
But temp wise you are ok.
Just make sure the ribbons are out of the air flow path is all.
The voltage you quoted are for a duron which can run a notch lower on voltages. I know as they are mine as I goofed in posting if that was a T'bird. My first listing comes from Amd's website.
Definately under 90C as it was designed for.

Thanks train. My CPU is an Athlon, but the BIOS is the version that came with the board.(1004).May not recognize it properly, dunno'. Have all my ribbon cables folded and tied and the larger power supply cables bundled with twist-on auto electrical wrap. Not "really" worried about the temps, except i see others stating theirs run at 38c to 40c and would like mine to run that cool.
Guess i'll just live with it. It is well within limits, so 'spose it'll be ok.
Thanks again
Kell,,

snarfll, have you checked your HSF and made sure that it seated squarely on the CPU?
Also what version of the Via 4in1's are you using, a few people including myself have noticed idle temps rising by 8 degrees c with the new ver 4.31

philgo,
Yes, i was very careful installing the HSF and it went on properly. I've heard the horror stories 'bout crackin' the edge off your CPU and such And i was very careful to get a thin, even coat of paste on.
I've also heard bad tales of the Via 4.31 drivers and have only upgraded to the 4.29 version.
Thanks for your suggestions

The "normal" vcore for that Athlon is 1.7. Something in the 1.65 to 1.85 is tolerable though. I'm not sure what that "user defined" display is showing you, but you are lucky the machine even booted at 1.5 or 1.45. You might be able to get down to 1.6 if you were lucky. I would tend to just leave vcore on "auto". Also, quite frequently there is a few percent (maybe five) error in what's shown, frequently to the high side. In other words if the reading shows a vcore of 1.78 the reading is really 1.7.
You're temps are maybe higher than what many people see, but not high enough to panic over.

drMDJ,
Thanks for your input. And yes, when i looked at user define, it showed the setting at 1,5v. Although the BIOS monitor said the voltage was 1.72 and the Asus probe in Windoze said it was 1.76v.
'Course, as we all know, there can be lots of "variables" for different things in these ol' 'puters
Guess i'm just too much of a perfectionist at times. Kinda' comes from learning the "hard way" i guess.
