athlon classic vs thunderbird
I have two motherboards 1 microstar ms-6191 that I am runnning a amd athlon thunderbird 750 slot a processor ....the other board is a power color pvk7 with a athlon classic 650 slot a processor....question is this the pvk7 will support both the thunderbird and the classic processor but I cannot find any information as to why the microstar board will only run using the thunderbird chip....why can I not switch these two processors in this board....help.....

Very few boards support both slot A T-birds and slot A Classic K7s. Soyo made one the K7VIA but it has limitations. Have you tried updating the bios on the microstar? What chipset is on the microstar? Is it the VIA kx133?
Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing.

Train.....at one time they had classic and thunderbird models that were slot A instead of socket a......
The Microstar board has the AMD chipset on it 751 northbridge and 756 southbridge....
The PVK7 is the VIAkx133 and it supports both classic and Tbirds

According to this page, the 6191 does support the Classic (K75). Perhaps if your's doesn't it is simply a bios level issue.

So you never see or get past the POST screen?
If you can get in to bios setu I would do so, load defaults, save and exit. The go back and make specific bios changes you have.

It also may be a voltage setting issue. The "classic" used a split voltage 1.6/3.3, whereas the Thunderbird did not (1.7).

I never see the post screen....no video at all. I just hear the floppy access sound and a single beep then it repeats...it will do this each time until I power down....the monitor never detects video at all

I thought I would try something...I cleared the cmos and then tried again same thing...so I unhooked the floppy drive to see what would happen and it does this...8 beeps wait a 2 seconds 8 beeps wait 8 beeps repeats until I turn off.....I do not know what to do next....I am seriously thinking about scrapping this MS-6191 board
