    FDISK Problem

Anyone got any advice for me...

I have just fitted new Hard disk and i am trying to split into 3 partitions, this drive will be used on the secondary slave cable....when i partition it all goes ok but when i restart and goto windows or run fdisk again the last partition disapears....this happens if i split it to 2 or 3 partitions...if i make it 1 large drive it is ok as far as formatting goes...

But when i fit this drive slave to my DVD the drive is NOT recognised in BIOS or DOS so i cant format it like this... but it apears on the wrong drive letter in wondows...

if u need any more info just ask!

I am confused i thought it would be simple, all help appresiated, thanx in advance.

    Fdisk
    Make the Primary partition
Now make ist extended and second then hit excape and get out on fdisk.
    Reboot

    format each partition

be sure to set jumper to slave.

    Hi, thanx dudes,

just to let u know i have allready used fdisk many times b4 and have never had this problem in the past, i am following the correct procedure...but i'm not sure how many partitions u can have.

i have on master disk (30gb) 3 partitions and i also want 3 partitions on my new slave drive(45gb), this is where i am getting problems if i create 1 or 2 partitions they are all formattable/usable (i was slightly wrong above)...if i make 3 or 4 and possibly more the last partition is created OK but don't exist at all in DOS, WINDOWS & FDISK but it shows up as normal until i either exit fdisk/restart or just quit fdisk w'out restarting and start fdisk again its disapeared. i have had several atempts with various partition sizes.

have i crossed the limit to the number of drives/partitions a pc can see? if not any1 got any ideas

Is this a common problem...would the following be a good solution or should i not need to do this...if i make the last partition on drive only a few mb's or as small as possible it would not matter about the loss of space...is this what people have to do with drives of this size?

(i have temporary sorted other drive recognition prob by swapping ide's)

    Thanx for your help!

In otherwords your bios recognizes 7 partitions but not 8.

Must admit that is a new one on me.
I do not think this is the problem , Fdisk Does Not Recognize Full Size of Hard Disks Larger than 64 GB but it might be

EDIT; The more I think about it, I would say iy is , as you have 75GB and Fdisk does not recognize that size. TO BIG>

    Here's a thought,

If you have TweakUI installed (or another tweaking program), check to make sure that it's set to show all drives.

Also, check the Config.sys file for a LastDrive= statement. If it exists, either rem it, delete it or change it to LastDrive=Z.

    Thanx all for the help!
