    Go Configure?

    Hi All!
Would really like your help/opinions on this. This is what i'm running now.
    Asus A7V w/o onboard sound,Duron600
    ATI Rage/fury/8Meg video
    SB 16 PCI
    56K internal hardware modem
    128MB PC133 SDRAM
    20GIG Quantum Fireball 7200RPM ATA/66(master)1 partition C:
    10.5GIG WD 5400RPM ATA/66(slave) 1 partition D:
    Plextor 8x4x32 CDR/W (E
    Pioneer 16x DVD (F
    Latest Award BIOS version (1005C)

Upgrade will be: ATI Radeon 64MEG TIVO card, SB Live 1024Value sound, another 128MB PC133 SDRAM for a total of 256MB.

Intend on doing a complete wipe and re-install of Win98FE w/upgrades to I.E.5.5 and all the rest.

My question is this, i'm now running all drives on the ATA 66/33 board connectors.Hard drives on primary,CD drives on secondary. My intentions are to use the Promise ATA100 primary connector for the hard drives with 40/80 cable. And enable the ATA100 in BIOS. And to connect CD drives to ATA 66/33 primary connector. I originally ran all drives on the ATA100 connector and had to set IDE config. to "none" in BIOS to get promise to recognize them. Do you think with the above set-up that i will have to simply set the hard drives to "none" and the CD's to auto? Or am i way off base on this configuration?
Any help/opinions will be gratefully appreciated.
    Thanx in advance.
    Oops!,,didn't mean to "smilie" above

In the BIOS, set all drives to Auto. The system will still recognize the hd's as long as you have the ATA drivers intact. Otherwise, all should work fine as you configured there.

Thanks bistro, was wondering whether setting them all to auto might confuse the promise controller and it may not recognize them.
But, will try it your way first and can always reset if necessary.
