System recovery on Compaq
My friend has a Compaq and his Add/Remove programs dialog box is empty. Plus his DSL quit working.
He is trying to use the Compaq complete system restore to return to factory settings. He is supposed to insert the cd-rom and boot up. For him though, after boot up, there is no menu that comes up.
Question. Does anyone know what kind of restore program or image file is on the backup drive? Is is a PQ Drive Image file?
If so, can he use my PQ Drive Image 7 emergency disks I made for my 98se machine to access and load the image file?

I don't know what the image file is...but he should check to make sure that his BIOS settings are correct in that his first boot device should be the CD-ROM/ATAPI device...

If there is a red screen that flashes "contact compaq tehcnical support:
or something similar than you have to buy,for $15 , anew restore cd ...it totally fdisks your system and has everything you need to make your system back to new.Your trying it with the recovery cd....for some reason it doesnt work after awhile,or only twice,or if system changes.They never told me why it happens,probably built this way so you can pay em' $15
