Net Meeting - uninstall problem
I want to uninstall Net Meeting to free up space. Ran Setup in Add\Remove and the uninstall started but got the following error message:
Error creating process C:\PROGRA~1\NETMEE~1\conf.exe - unregserver. Reason - system cannot find the file specified.
Looked in the NetMeeting folder, the file is there and it works.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is and more importantly, the solution
Thanks

Here is what I would do. I would reinstall Netmeeting, reboot the system after installation and then go to the add/remove and try to uninstall it. I am sure, it is gonna work this time. Good luck!

I can't re-install it, the box is checked so Windows Setup thinks it's already there, which it is, so it won't re-install nor uninstall - that's the problem!!

Well, another option is to reinstall windows on the top of your current windows. You will not lose anything by doing so. All it does is to correct and repair any damaged or corrupted files you might have and then I will attempt uninstalling Netmeeting again and see what will happen. Your last resort would be deleting Netmeeting folder itself and then going to the registery and remove anything related to the Netmeeting. This will delete the Netmeeting entry in your Add/Remove programs list.CAUTION !!I do not recommend the last resort unless you know what you are doing, cause messing around with windows registry is very dangerous and it might disable your system. So Make sure you make a backup copy of your registry before you do anthing to it.

Thanks Abe.
If I re-install Windows i have a feeling that when it searches for installed components it will see that NM is already there and do nothing!
One day I might try the registry solution but am a bit scared of that so maybe I'll just leave it. WinME is so temperamental I don't want to upset it!!

Try uninstalling Netmeeting from safe mode.
To boot into safe mode:
Reboot.
After the POST(the memory check and the *beep*) start tapping on the F8 key.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.
Now go to the control panel>>add/remove programs>>windows components and try removing the check mark.
Do you get the same error message?

I tried that and it appeared to have worked in Safe Mode ie when I ran setup again (still in SM)the tick had gone from the box and it showed 0.0MB. Felt quite chuffed and when I restarted, on the desktop (before the icons come)it said "updating system settings" so felt even more chuffed but then immediately followed the same error message !! Ran setup again in Windows and there we were back at square one, tick back in the box and 4.4MB showing and folder still in prog. files. Wierd?
