If you want reliable then go for Win2000, the worst that happens if an app crashes is a polite message telling you that the program needs to be restarted, and it doesn't happen often. And you get lots of tools to tell you exactly what's going on. I guarantee that after you've used it for a week you'll realise what a load of @#%* Win 9x is! I only use ME for a few essential programs that just won't run in 2000

It might, but it's not really designed for that. It is designed for the corporate world, not the gamers world. I would stick with 98.

Hi All, I am going to say something a little different about ME.
I purchased a new pc installed with 98se and had terrible problems with crashing and freezing the dealer could not find the problem. I then borrowed a copy of ME BETA version from the dealer and installed it over the top of 98se and all my problems disappeared. I have since purchased a copy of ME, re-formatted my hard disk and clean installed ME I have nothing but praise for the program compared to the previous problems I had. However I do have a problem with closing down after being on the net (documented elswhere). In summary if you must go to ME make sure you do a clean install.
Regards.

Hi everyone, Personally I like ME as it has been very stable for me.
But to answer the question, look at the win 95 forum, the win 98 forum, the ME forum, and the win 2000 forum. What do you see?? The same problems over and over again with all the systems.
So it's really up to you. A ME System on one machine runs fine while on another it's nothing but trouble. Same for all the other systems.
What it all comes down to is, if the system you are using works, leave it alone.
My .02 worth.

If computers are so smart, why don't they just fix themselfs??

It's all amatter of preference. 50% like 98se 50% like ME. I would choose 98, but someone else might come by and choose ME. There is no real definitive answer to the age old question.

My son installed ME upgrade over '98 and I hate it. At least once a day it just reboots itself and I have a terrible time with logging of/on. I asked friends if I could install '98 upgrade over it and they all say NO, that I would have to reformat and reinstalling '98. Aaarrrggghhh.

I have installed ME over 98SE as wel as clean on ten machines of varying capability but uniformly they all performed better that on 98SE. Better stability, better recovery from disasters through system Restore, and greatly improved high end media and graphics performance. Granted the best performance is on a beefier machine, 128+MRam.
That said, however, at this point in time, I would wait for XP.
Good Luck.

Windows Me has been working fine. I like the fact that when a program crashes, it does not always bring the whole system down. When an illegal operation appears, you just click 'ok' and everything continues to work fine. It's your choice.
Sys: 533mhz cel and 128 ram

Personally I would stick to Windows 98 because Windows Millenium IS slower and there is really nothing to gain but eye candy, which is nice but... not worth a new RAM stick.
Where it comes to stability I think that Windows Millenium is a bit more stable because ALL drivers are 32-bit versions and that old processor mode Realmode is gone (but that will touch stability indirect).

i noticed that you have SB Live... i did see many problems discussed in the computingnet
forum about that card compatibility with windows ME http://www.computing.net/windowsme/w.../wwwboard.html
open the page and on the top is a little search window type in your sound card and change from win9x to win ME
