    Local machine xx.yy.zz.oo internet access?

Lets see how to phrase this. I got one of the machines on my network which is causing lumps of trouble with the network. Seems that it wants to make an internet connection to another machine on the network, and that's not right. Machine has been throughly scanned, though I'm about to scan again, but there's no, err, unacceptable programs running on it. When the problem crops up, it causes other machines on the network to lock when accessing the network neighborhood, and and examination of FW logs indicate the internet access attempts. And the problem child refuses to respond to KB&Mouse. RESET. and the problem goes away, for a while.

*****Peer, no server, every machine hard assigned local IP's, DSL'ed to external gateway & DNS.

Should I perhaps switch to Wins/DCHP? and if so, how does one do that in a serverless environment?

I would not use DHCP. If you don't have a server then DHCP is not going to work and will only cause further problems. Keep the IP static.

Is the machine trying to map any network drives or printers?

Also, does the machine have internet access? Its possible there are some legitimate programs trying to access the internet, like virusscan trying to do an auto-update.
