Having Trouble Uisng Printer on Network .Any Help??

I have a HP840C on a network computer which has Win2000 for OS. Have other computers on network using Win98SE for Os. At one time I was able to access HP840C, But have been unable since. Everytime I try to set up the printer as a network printer on the Win98 'puters, I will get a message saying that the printer is off-line [which it isn't]
Being that the printer uses a USB connection, I cannot add the printer software to a computer that does not have the printer directly attached. Any help on this would sure be appreciated.

In checking the printer setup in Win2000, when I check the printer sharing window, It states that an additional driver is needed for networking computers that have different OS , thus when I check the box for the win95/98 driver, it then asks to insert the Win2000 server CD. I have the Win2000 professional edition, but it won't resolve the request for the .INF file that it is requesting. I am at a loss as to what they mean about a Win2000 Server CD....

thats a feature in nt servers were it sends the drivers to 9x computers. had the same problem so I create a port on the 9x machine and load the 9x drivers and pointed it to that port.

I am able to access another printer of which the host OS is Win98. A printer of which the host OS is Win2000 is giving me fits. My big problem is that I have a client computer (win98)that will now not let me delete the printer that I have been trying to use, via network [the one attached to Host computer Win2000]When I try to delete it, I keep getting a "this program has performed an elegal operation" Something to do with spool32 and kernel32.dll Before I can continue with trying to get the printer to set up on the client, I have to first try to figure a way to delete the printer icon without the "illegal operation" thing. Any other way of finding this printer setup and deleting??
