Setting up a network for the first time

    Ok people,

Basically, I'm thinking about setting up a network between two computers I have in the household which are in seperate rooms roughly 8 meters appart. In the physical part of this, I think I know what I'm doing...but in terms of setting it up on the software side...I'm not too sure.

Is there any aspects of my computers I should explore before attempting this?

    Steve.
