I can´t see another PC in my workgroup

HI,

I have 2PCs connected in my network LAN, but when I want to see the PC1 from de PC2 is not see.

My configuration is the following
PC1: IP. 10.1.1.1 Subnetmaks 255.255.255.0, Protocol TCP/IP, Workgroup Marketing.
PC2: IP. 10.1.1.2 Subnetmask 255.255.255.0
Protocol TCP/IP, Workgroup Marketing.

What system operator are you using?? Can you see pc2 from pc1?? have you enable sharing files in pc1?? also have you setted down the drive which you want to share??

To start with, that is not a valid IP address.
Make things easier on yourself, remove
TCP/IP and install NetBuei.

Sure it's a valid IP address and subnet mask.

Have you actually shared a directory on PC1? If you go to a DOS prompt on PC1 and type "ping 10.1.1.2" (no quotes), what do you get? What if you type "ping 10.1.1.1" from PC2? Are any of the lights on the back of the network cards lit? Are you running any firewall software such as Zone Alarm?

I have to disagree, you have a Class A
address with a Class C Subnet Mask.

There is no reason to use TCP/IP in
a 2 computer network without Internet
access, Netbuei is faster and there is no setup. If you have Internet access DHCP
will take care of TCP/IP setup.

Netbuei is very old, and some funtions will not work. Also that ip is apsolutely a valid ip. He can prove it saying that he can see pc2 from pc1. And also, 10.1.1.X work with any subnet mask, am i right?

Yes my LAN is a CLASE A, in the future I hope to connect 5 PC more to 2 that I already have and everything worked with a proxy server. My OS is Win98 in both machine. When I type ping from PC1 to PC2 I don´t have answer. I will try re-to install the network cards in order to solves the problem. If has another commentary let me know.

Well, try to use subnet 255.0.0.0 see if it work.

Mandatory Class-based subnet masks went out the window years ago when CIDR was invented. I've subnetted the 10.x address space with /16 and /24 masks on several sites and it works fine.

jarcito, start with the basics - are the LEDs on the network cards lit?
