    Home networking problem

    Hello,
I am trying to get my laptop and desktop to see each other over the network. I can get them to see themselves, but not each other.
I am using Netgear Ethernet hub EN104.
I have them both plugged into the hub plus my external DSL modem.
    Here are my TCP/IP specifications:
    Obtain IP
    Diable WINS
    Gateways:192.168.10.1
    192.168.10.2
    192.168.10.3
(my laptop has one more that i am supposed to use when i conect at school)
DNS: Enabled (Then I have my dsl information)
    the rest is standard
    File Print sharing is enabled
The Identification is all the same on each computer (except the names)
    Share-level access checked

my desktop computer can connect to the DSL with this information, but the laptop does not.

    In network configuration I have:
    Client for Microsoft network
    My ethernet adapter
    TCP/IP
    File and Printer Sharing

I used to have them working at one point, but I formated my one desktop and now things just aren't working. Also I used to have some trouble if I have taken my laptop to school and connected to there servers for internet, then when I bring it home it would have some trouble connecting back to the home network. Eventually it would work though. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really apprectiate it. Thank you

Do you have 3 computers set up as gateways?

I apologize for two consecutive messages, but I had some trouble posting here...

Your post says that you are specifying that your computers obtain an IP. Do you have DHCP running? Perhaps you should specify an IP address for your laptop. also, did you specifically share the resources on your desktop after you reformatted? (little blue hand under each drive/partition)

    3 computers in gateways
    192.168.10.1
    192.168.10.2
    192.168.10.3

The files are shared on both computers(little blue hand

I don't understand why you have 3 gateways specified. However, if you are telling your computer to obtain an IP, something must be configured to provide it. are you using a router that provides DHCP services or are you doing that through Windows? If you are not, then you may need to specify an IP address. Click the start button, click RUN, then type WINIPCFG. Do this in each PC on your network. See what the IP addresses are. It sounds like your PCs have no IP addresses, with the exception of the one which is connected to your DSL. That is only giving you a single IP. If this is all correct, it is also why your PCs can't see each other.

Try sharing a folder or drive on each machine. Go to explorer and use tools-map network drive which should force a connection.
