Specify alternate DNS?
Hi! Does anyone know how/if I can specify an alternate DNS IP address in the event that my cable company's router's down?
I tried Control Panels/Network/Configuration/TCPIP properties/DNS Configuration - Enable DNS to no avail.

Below where you enabled DNS, there is a box that says "DNS Server search order" enter the IP of the DNS server then hit add. If your cable company's router goes down this may not help.

Yes, I did add two IP addresses but it never seemed to help.
In a separate vein, when I dialed up with a modem, I noticed that I could view websites and get mail (in Netscape 4.7) but couldn't send -- any idea what the deal is here?

You generly won't notice wether adding the DNS addresses has done anything, because if the first one is down it goes to the second one. It happens so fast you would never know.
As for sending mail, more than likely, incorrect SMTP address in messenger setup.
