    Win98 AutiDial Hell...

Win98 will attempt to dial the Internet at (seemingly) random times. This only happens *after* I've accessed the Net and disconnected. After 3-5 mins, the connect dialog comes up and connects via my dial-up connection. Some more info: I'm using latest version of both IE4 sp2 and every other damn Win98 component; I'm using NetBeui for a *****peer Ethernet connection, Dial-Up Server is installed to receive dial-up calls (using a different modem), File Sharing is enabled on TCP/IP->Dial-Up so that macine dialing in can access files, etc.
Also, I use Compuserve for my ISP/Net connection, which uses its own subtype of Server Type for my connection (CISPPP).
I've tried *everything* to fix this, with no luck. I realize I can probably fix it by disabling Autodial in InterNet settings, but this will be a drag for the people (newbies) using the machine. Besides, this didn't start until I switched from Win95 to Win98, using the exact same hardware/software setup. Any ideas?????????

I had the same problem using Compuserve 2000 and Win98SE. The problem resolved when I switched ISPs and reformatted the hard drive. Sound Extreme? It was very annoying.

Thanx for the info - that's exactly what I ended up doing: taking the machine down to
"bare metal" (twice!) and then being *very* selective about what I re-installed. The problem hasn't reared it's ugly head again(yet!).
