win95 to win98 small home netowrk
I have had 4 pcs all running win98 on a 5 port hub running great no problems. I sold the hub and nic cards to a friend at college and wired up cat5 cables for them so i can upgrade ... same hub same nics, different pcs... The problem is that i cannot get 2 win95 machines to talk with the 98 machine... am i missing something. all of their network settings are the same as my 4 98 machines had been.
we use the following:
client for microsoft networking
(any preferences with "quik logon/logon and restore")
tcp/ip (AUTO IP ADRESS)
ipx/spx
file and printer sharing

Try specifying an IP address like
198.162.5.1 on computer #1 then for the rest follow the sequence like computer #2 would be 198.162.5.2. If this still does not work then try your netbeui protocol then assign the computers names then a Workgroup name that is the same for all. Can both WIN95 machines talk to each other? If not check you nic cards.

The Win95's may have needed the Winsock update to be installed in order to communicate with Win98 via TCP/IP.

I had to use netBEUI to get mine to work, and I do have a win95 machine talking to my win98 and win2k machines

hi! I think that the best solution is to add net BEUI protocol.
