Lockup on boot
Im new to networking so please bare with me. I just installed two nic cards (RTL8029). On the first computer (pentium 2, 266mhz, win98) the hardware was found on boot and installed the appropriate software. This computer seems to work fine, however the only computer that can be seen on the network is itself. The other computer however (Pentium-MMX 233mhz, win95) locks up on boot. Sometimes just after post before windows loads. Most times it locks up just as the wallpaper shows on the screen. Before any icons appear. I tried selective boot but still can't figure it out. I can boot into safe mode but can't check for a conflict with IRQ and such in safe mode? Checked cmos to see if there was any settings for networking and couldn't find any. But did notice that after entering the setup and then booting, the system booted up. Tried to restart againg but locks up. But if I go into setup for cmos again afterwards the computer starts? But I can't access the network. I keep getting an error that says "unable to browse the network" " The network is not accesable. For more information look at the help index in the topic network troubleshooter." I do receive a log on box once in awhile asking for a password and domain. What do I put in for a domain and password? Is there somewhere I have to go to set that up? Could a cmos error I.E. problem with cmos battery help cause this lockup problem?I had an error on the day prior to installing the cards and lost my settings in cmos, having to replace them. I don't know if this is important or not, but I am conecting them with rg58 thinnet bnc cable. I conected directly to the cards in each computer with the bnc conector. Using no hub just the cable. I was told that this would work? Any help would be greatly appreciated with this. Thank you.

You said you were using coax with BNC connectors. Are you using terminators on the machines at both ends of the loop?
Also start your computer with the bootlog.txt and view it after the system starts up. You will see a load fail indication next to the driver or device that didn't initialize.

No Im not using terminators. I didn't use the T conectors that came with the cards. I just conected the cable directly to the card on one computer and then into the card on the other. Should I use the T conector? As for the bootlog.txt. Thanks I will try that. Do you have any idea why I can't access the network when I do get it to boot? Thanks in advance.
