***help**** word 2000 crashes my computer
Hi everyone, I admit it, I’m stumped.
I have a new computer with a fresh install of win2k pro, all the service packs.
Microsoft office 2000 SBE, the first release,
Loaded all critical updates for win2k and
Service pack 2 (sp-1 was integrated in my original install cd)
Loaded all critical updates for office 2000
Including sp-1 and sp-2.
The computer runs great and is stable except when I open a word document, the doc loads..
I can see the text ok, them BAM spontaneous reboot.
It won't happen with a small document just a large one. And before someone asks, no the document is not corrupt I can open it just fine with a windows 98 machine running the same installed version of office 2000, even without the service packs. And this happens with ALL large word files.
I've never seen this with win2kpro I didn't think it was possible for an application to take out the o.s. on a NT based system, because they run separately.
Tried a clean reload of both the o.s. and office and same exact result. Microcrap says this is a known problem and is fixed with the installation of sp-1, but with sp-1 installed same problem, sp-2 same problem, no sp's installed same problem.
win98 machine, no sp's no problem.
Any ideas or help are appreciated.

I will be happy to take a look at the document.

Otherwise, take a look at Word Troubleshooting on my web.

Thanks for the offer Dreamboat, BUT "I FOUND IT."
(The problem that is.) The reboot was caused by a memory fault, which was caused by a bad printer driver. (Toshiba digital copier) this caused a core dump (and stop error.) My machine was set (by default) to reboot on a stop error.
Apparently word formats the document for printing when opening (near the end of the load) and that started a chain reaction that has caused me to be here at this late hour, (3:13 am) but at least it's fixed.
Thanks for your help, and your generous offer. It's people like you that make this site one of the best forums around. If you ever need any hardware advice, you'll probably find me lurking in the hardware forum.
Thanks again
Peace out
