MS Paint question
I want to be able to save a BMP file as a jpeg, from within MS paint. I used to be able to do this on my old system (same OS). The drop down menu allows me to save as bmp,& gif formats. Can anyone tell me how to add Jpeg formats to this "save as" menu??
Using Win 98SE.
Thanks

Well, I'm not sure exactly why it happened, but I can tell you this: Before I installed Office, Paint wouldn't save as jpg's. Since I've installed Office, it will. Although, if you install Office, you can use their photo editor to save jpg's. I hope that helps a little.

Hi Smormando!
Thanks for the super fast reply. I think I actually had Office on my old computer, just didn't install it on this one. YET.
I think that may be it.!!!
Thanks again. I will try it out!

I am unable to help with the problem which has arisen in having your Paint program save your graphics other than as bmp files.
However, I suggest you considr downloading Irfanview a very versatile viewer which will enable you to change bmps to jpeg or gif graphic file types

It's b/c Office has the filter for it. If you have another graphic editor which has the jpg filter you will also add the ability for Paint to save jpg files when you install that graphic editor.
--------------
meadel,
If you have not installed OFFICE yet, make sure you do a custom install of it to ensure the jpg and gif filters will get installed (under "Converters and Filters" > "Graphic Filters" in the installation menu.)
If you have OFFICE installed already you can still add the filter(s):
Start > Add/Remove programs > Offiice. Then choose Add/Remove Features. Navigate to "Converters and Filters" > Graphic Filters.
It should work but if it doesn't (which happens sometimes) you may need to do the additional tweaks as outlined in the ONE_HUMAN site (link provided above by buck52.)

This tip worked like a charm!!! Thank you all so much for the suggestions!
I am really psyched as this makes my work easier! I did not try installing Office as my version is a bit outdated. SO, once again, thank you!
ps. This is a very good support forum, I'm glad I stumbled upon it.
May the force be with you.
