    Password is not being remembered

The ISP Tech cannot solve this one.
Control Panel=>Internet Options=>Connections Tab=>hilite isp, click settings, type in username and password, click OK. When I try to go online it asks for my password. The check box to remember the password there is grayed out.
The Tech said he would keep looking and e-mail a solution, if he can find one. We spent a couple hrs checking and rechecking.

    I was installing win98se after a format.

    Any one got any ideas.

    Give this a try.

Go to start / settings / control panel / internet options / content / autocomplete / and make sure that all the boxes are checked.

    Hi there pfoerste,

Check out the sites below, they will give you several options/suggestions on how to fix the problem. Your query is a very popular one - also being the most annoying one for dial-up users! Check out each site and their respected methods and try them carefully:

Save Password Check Box Is Unavailable <<An MSKB article pertainig your query

    Fixing the "Save Password" Option

Why can't I "save password" in my Dial-up Networking dialog box?

    Correct problems with Dial-Up Networking

Cannot Save Dial Up Password On Connect Screen

Windows 95/98 Dial-up Networking Save Password Bug

Inside Microsoft Windows - Troubleshooting problems with the Dial-Up Networking password

The above sites are the ones that addressed your query to the letter and have many possibilities for a fix. I know it is a lot of reading, but hey, the end result will be worth it, eh?

Good luck mate and please post back results or any comments or queries!

BTW, Theoran's suggestion addresses the passwords you type at actual sites (eg. maybe at Hotmail or any other site that requires you to type in a username and password - just like VDr!). The AutoComplete feature can save usernames/passwords so the next time, you don't have to!

    Hope this helps!

Thanks every one! But it looks like I have other problems, causing a lot of problems.

This is the post I had. And I tried a suggestion from
    C:\Download\Aspi update failure - CDROM-Guide Bulletin Board.htm

This is so screwed up I don’t even know if I can decifer my notes.
Went to widows start dos mode. C\&d\ showed the dir.
B\(which I don’t have) had a dir. Volume drive is cd_1 seral number is 10f2-1177 directory os b:\ file not found 1,457,664 bytes free
    A: through z: invalad drive.

Started with win 98se start up disk to a:\
    C: & d: gave me there dir. A: & b: had the same dir.

Rebooted, now in start in dos mode a:, c:, d: gave me there dir. B: was the same as a:.
    E: & F: said invalad drive spec.

Back in windows A, C, D, E, and F were there in my computer and explorer. NOW…

Saved this and went out to check the fish on the grill and I came back in and the computer was off. Restarted and e: is not there now.

I guess I better remove all the cards and reformat and start from scratch.

    ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS??

goldust, you were right that was a lot of reading, but worst was the confusion and questions I had. I think most of them were saying about the same thing, but a little differently. That's not good when you are not sure of your self.
The next to last one had a non wordy thing to check the registry for a Auto Logon and to delete it. I had it and I did, then some of things being talked about in the others came up like the windows password dialog box.
I must have clicked cancel instead of OK when I reloaded windows.

It let me save my password when I logged on this time.

Thanks for your help and patience. That goes for eveyone who responded.

pfoerste, no problemo mate. I'm glad I could help. Just to let you know that if you post back regularly, telling other members and the people helping you what stage you are at in rectifying the problem, it helps us a lot and makes things seem much clearer. This way you won't get conflicting advice and you shouldn't get all that confused.

Now that your "Save Password" query has been answered here, you can concentrate on any other niggling issue in a new thread and someone will be along to help ya!

    Thanx for posting back bud!

Golddust, sorry I was so slow getting back!
I was trieing to reload after a format. Had this problem and a bad cdrw, a cdrom going bad, printer would not reload, honey-do's that had to be done now, grandkid(s) birthday party. And you gave me a big reading assignment.
I hope next time I just have one problem to work on at a time.

    Thanks very much again!!
