I had blackice for 9 months before getting rid of it in favour of zonealarm. it was a good decision.

With zonealarm you can select which programs you want to allow access to the net. Don't recall having that capability in black ice. Also with black ice sometimes spent ages selecting block when I would get bombarded with hits. In zone alarm don't have to see the hits, just set it to block. then if I am curious go and look at the zonealarm log.

BlackIce interfered with my icq. Zone alarm doesn't. All round I think zone alarm is a better product. Black ice may be better than nothing, but zone alarm seems to provide better coverage, options and ease of use.

BlackIce does not monitor outgoing messages (ZA is one of the few that do) and is not really a firewall. It includes most firewall functions but not all.

ZoneAlarm is also completely free, unless you want the Pro version, which is totally unnecassary for domestic home use.

I have tried both and much prefer zone alarm too, however, the program is not remembering what I want to authorize for internet access. I ask that it remembers for future use, but it asks every single time on every program I use...very annoying. I have a seperate post for this problem if anyone has any ideas. Other than that little problem I vote for Zone Alarm!
