Real time automatic backing up - SecurDat

Hi, am wondering if anyone out there can help me. I have been looking for a freeware program that automatically backs up any file that changes (to my zip drive) so that I don't have to remember to keep loading programs, or pushing buttons to perform a back up each time a file I use changes. Am not really after a 'scheduled' program, ie every five minutes, or every hour. What I'd rather is that it monitors in the background, and performs the backup automatically the moment the file changes. Have found a program called SecurDat that is exactly what I am after, but the newer versions (v2 onwards) are shareware. Apparently the earlier versions are freeware but I cannot find it anywhere online. If anyone has any ideas, I would be most grateful - especially if you know the whereabouts of an earlier version of SecurDat (I believe its file name is SecDat.exe and is about 1.4mb in size). Thanks for the speedy reply. Unfortunately, no. I have found the file I have been looking for at numerous freeware sites, but the download link links straight to the authors site and automatically downloads the newest version I need to somehow get the file from somewhere other than the author's site (ie if someone has it saved on their harddrive by some remote chance) - wishful thinking I am thinking. You have to ask though, eh. Maybe someone else might know where else to find it. Even the ftp searches only bring up the newest file. Thanks again Daizy. Sue

Yes, I did. The first site links to the author's current website (PA-Soft) and the second links to his old website, and nothing exists there anymore - that then redirects to his current website. I had worked out that anything that says pa-soft in the link would not work, as the download comes straight from the author. But hey, thanks again for trying Sue

Just out of curiosity, do you really mean "the moment the file changes"? This could imply on every key stroke as you type changes. Or do you mean when the file is closed after it has been edited?

Do you need a separate copy of each version of the file, or do you just want a backup of the latest version? In the second case, have you considered buying a mirrored disk? Its not free but it is more reliable.

If you can't find what you want, the Backup page on my web site has a DOS batch file that backsup changed files once a day. It avoids the overhead of a process that runs all the time. Look for "Poor man's backup" about half way down the page.

Thank you for your reply. I suppose I was being a tad too specific eh - no, I mean once the file has been closed, not every keystroke - I suppose what I was getting at was that I didn't want it to do it in xxxx mins, hours, days etc.

Thank you for the other information you provided, it was greatly appreciated - if I can't find the file (or something the same) that I am looking for, I will certainly take a look.

Just wanted to write to let you know that my problem has been solved. I have found another program that can do just what I am looking for (Rapid Backup from Download.com) - so thanks for all of your efforts - they were very much appreciated.
