    DVD - no sound

Have a client that has a Dell Dimensions 333c. We recently upgraded the sound card to the Sound Blaster Live 5.1. I disabled the onboard sound in the bios. Installation went fine & all windows sounds work. Just cant get sound out of the DVD

He has a dvd decoder card in the system. I spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with creative & they werent much help

I have a feeling it is in the way I have done the patch cables. The DVD sound worked when the patch cables were connected to the motherboard. Heres the way I have them:

    Tad to Tad on modem
He has 2 cdroms. One is a rewriter. I have the cdaudio cable from the back of the rewriter going to the cd in on the SB Live card. CD audio works.
I have the cdaudio cable from the back of the DVD player going to the audio in on the dvd decoder card
I have the aux in on the SB Live card going to the aux out on the dvd decoder.
Theres a 2 pin cable that is connected to the back of the DVD player & onto the far right 2 pin connector on the SB live card
The speakers are connected via a 1/4 inch RCA jack going from the DVD decoder to a set of DTT3500 speakers.

    What have I done wrong?

I may be missing something in looking over your connections, but...

Did you turn "Digital Output Only" on in the advanced options for the volume controls. You may also have to turn AC-3 Decode off as well (in the same advanced options).

    No I have not
Didnt know I was supposed to. There was something on the Creative site about that.

Not suprized that tech support didnt have me check that. Thats why I posted it here. I know it has to be something dirt simple

I will cleck that. Thanks a lot!

I just wanted to let you know that you were dead on with this suggestion. Problem was that they buried those settings so deep it was not at all easy to find

Another tech call to Creative. Took about 3 hours total in 2 sessins of about 1.5 hours each

Getting these speakers to work with the SB live card is not easy! Too damned many settings that can be wrong for me. The manual is totally unclear about the connections and mentions nothing at all about what you brought up.

But it works now. And I do have to admit those speakers do kick some butt!

Pretty impressive when you get it to work with the surround sound speakers but it was not easy!

I'll bet they do sound good. Been considering maybe getting some digital speakers myself.

As for the setting being buried: it sure is. Creatives mixer for the SBLives is not very clear.

    Glad ya got it working.
