Home page keeps changing-HELP

Every time I reboot my computer, my home page changes to a very undesirable web site. This same web site pops up in the side column when I hit the "Search" button located next to the "Favorites" button in MS Explorer. How can I get this to stop happening?

Hi there,
This is a common problem when you have visited undersirable sites - somewhere the site has imposed itself as your home page - not really a problem to correct though.

In IE - select the tools tab and then the Internet options tab - this will open up all sorts of options to you. The one you want is the very first item - just replace the address of your home page with a more acceptable site and there you go, so long as you click on the apply button the problem should go away - until you visit another undesirable site that is!

Another idea may be to organise your favourites and make sure the 'problem site' is deleted.

I have done this (gone into internet options and changed the home page address, and deleted all undesirable sites in favorites), and it corrects the problem temporarily, but when I reboot my computer and open explorer, the undesirable web page reappears. When I hit the search button, the same web page opens in the left column. Both of these problems seem to be deeper problems, perhaps in the registry.

Just in case you don't have an answer yet...

Start, Run, type in MSCONFIG

Click on the Startup tab, selective startup

Look through the list for anything that looks questionable (for help figuring out what's what, look at this site:

Disable anything that looks fishy (one at a time might be a good start), OK out (but choose NOT to restart your computer). Then go into Internet Explorer, change the options in question (homepage; to change the search page, you'll have to go into the registry - for info on how to do that, look here:

Then reboot your computer. If that took care of the problem, then you found the culprit - something that you just disabled.

You might also want to make sure you run a good antivirus (or try http://housecall.antivirus.com ), and also download install & run the free program Ad-Aware.

After I posted my query under the "Windows 98" forum, I noticed the other forum category, "The Internet", and thought that this might have been a more appropriate place to have posted my question. is it lop.com? if so go here and get their uninstaller to get rid of it: http://lop.com/help.html#startpage2

If that's no help do you see a line similiar to this in msconfig under the startup tab: (start--run--msconfig)

C:\Windows\regedit.exe /s C:\Windows\System\radD2C4B.tmp

If so uncheck it and then search for and delete the rad.xxxxx.tmp file shown in your msconfig. If it's there it won't necessarily be exactly the same file name as the one I have shown above but it will be a rad.tmp file.

If you have a file in Startup named reg or reg.hta that's probably the culprit.
