been listening for the past few weeks on how Radio Moi ( www.radiomoi.com ) will not have any more annoying ads as of january 15th.. well now I know why., they want you to sign up for anywhere between $80 to $200 a year for the priviledge of listening to their music without ads.. I'll take the ads.
Why is it everything that was free at one time is now costing you annually? I hope virtualdr doesn't go that route one day.

The money's got to come from somewhere.

There are numerous costs involved in running a good website. For instance, website servers cost money. The building to put them in cost money. Connecting those servers to the internet cost money. And, if a site is busy enough, one or more people will be required to set it up and keep it running -- and those people have to eat.

Many websites used to be able to support themselves (barely) by displaying advertising on their pages. But, that was back when advertisers used to pay more money per ad. Problem is, we, the internet user haven't been clicking on as many of the ads as was expected so the price per ad has dropped to next to nothing.

Meanwhile the costs to keep the servers running, the rent, electricity and phone bill paid, as well as feeding the support staff, continue on. If they can't get some money coming in from somewhere they have no choice but to close the website and go home.

I agree vernon.. not trying to figure out why, as you point out costs. I guess the true jest of my post is the day of free browsing will eventually come to an end for a lot of the good sites we all take for granted.
