how do I get rid of folders which should not have been made..
Hi all,
today I did something stupid
I got my favorites folder on my ISP webspace w/i intended for a web page.
how did I do that?
I rightclicked, and copied to wizard for webpublishing.
and I entered a name, and the url for my ISP webspace.
they got there.
but I want them gone
HOW do I do THAT (I know the foldernames)
frontpage is not installed
I can install the one in office 97, or even frontpage 98
and even frontpage 2000
if I got it in there, there must be a way to get it off?
HOW?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Jaak,
If you know the folder names, you can create new folders(empty) with the same names and upload them. They may overwrite the existing folders and their contents. This works for me, but I don't use the web publishing wizard. I use the file manager provided on the net by my ISP. Don't know if this helps.

was reading FAQ there, and it said I should not use frontpage(i didn't?)
but build at home and then use ftp to put it up...which i didn't...
gonna try replace them with empty folders like nick said.

all them useless things are still there
the ISP is a paid ISP.

there's no upload/download/delete buttons.
hmmm, there gotta be a way...

Install an FTP client and connect that way. You should be able to delete the extra folders from there.

Download and install this freeware ftp client:
WS_FTP-LE from DaveCentral Software
It's pretty self explanatory. If you need help, there is a tutorial here:
http://members.cnx.net/reboot/ftp_tutorial.htm
You can login to your site and delete the folders.

hi,
well, yesterday I tried that (aexact same program you guys suggest is advised on in the ISP FAQs...
but, I didn't figure it out right away.
DUH
today, a fresh head, a few cups of coffee, and to VDr.
I knew I can trust you guys, so I figured I was doing something wrong in FTP.
Well, what I failed to do was fill in the proper details in the FTP proggy.
So there you are, this "problem" got solved.
Thanks guys.
some "files" did not wanna go away...
looks like these had veeeerrryyyyy long descriptions
what could be the problem?
(because after all, there were all URLs in my fave folder which were not put in html)
could it be they truncated got broken?
I think I can live it, but I would like to know IF it can be solved...

Hi, Jaak. No solution, but a few times when running scandisk, I've had a message saying invalid filename, too long, repairing or ignoring makes no change. They're always urls of pages I've saved. Maybe an url can get away with a too long filename in favorites, but not elsewhere?
It would be a great pleasure to know I have helped you, and that the fix worked and might help others. You might help me by posting which linux distro, version, and desktop manager you use. Have a most excellent day, dude/ette.

hi
each and every undeletable was indeed an URL with a very very veruy very long description
I gave up on the FTP angle
far TOO many dirs to wade thru (could not delete entire dirs when they held "files" or "subdirs"
so what I did next was this.
I DE-ACTIVATED the webpage
and after a refresh of IE history and such, I ACTIVATED my webspace all over again.
viola, everything was gone.
funny thing is, the files the ISP put in there were gone too??
(well, I activated it when our ISP was young. it sure looked like it put ftp client stuff in each and every user folder.)
have shut, disconnected cablemodem to assign me a new IP adress, rebooted and looked again
Looks like it got cleaned out allright.
like I zapped a folder
I hope I can still publish something there.
Yeah, I'm gonna attempt doing something useful with that space I never used.
thanks for the assist.
